San Luis Obispo

Wow! What a trip! We survived our first trip with two kids! The boys did pretty well in the car, Bennett especially. Liam, on the other hand, didn't want to accept the fact that he had to ride in a car seat, and not on my lap. We had a "leisurely" drive there; it took a little over 5 hours (last year we made it in under 4). But, it was all worth it. Our hotel turned out to be perfect. We were on the ground floor next to the pool, and our patio opened up to a little grassy area where Bennett could play. It also had a "heated" pool, so we swam everyday (poor Liam only watched from the side, the pool wasn't quite warm enough for him). But, it was definitely a place we would like to stay at again!

On Wednesday, we spent the morning walking around downtown SLO. We stopped by the mission and peaked inside the church. It was a fun walk down memory lane! :) We also had a great time playing at Avila beach (just north of Pismo), but were disappointed to see that it had become much more touristy. They had added a lot of new stores and restaurants, and the beach was definitely more crowded than last year. Still, Bennett enjoyed playing in the water, and was much more brave about walking on the pier. Yesterday, on the way home, we stopped by Paso Robles to visit Matt's grandma. We hadn't seen her since the wedding, and she seemed to be doing well. She was very excited to meet Liam and enjoyed visiting with her great grandchildren.

Our family vacation wouldn't be complete without a trip to the hospital. Thursday morning, Matt woke up with a bright red eye (that has been red for two weeks straight!). He noticed some lumps on in, and we decided he needed to go to the emergency room. Luckily, the doctor said it was an infection that would clear up in a few days with some antibiotic eye drops. Never a dull moment!

I was half glad to get back to hot Ridgecrest (is that strange?), because the weather in SLO was surprisingly chilly. It's always nice to come back home, and Bennett has had a great morning reacquainting himself with all of his toys.

Well, here are some photo highlights. My camera got left in the trunk a lot, so I didn't take as many pictures as I had hoped. There are more pictures in the Picasa album.
Bennett is excited to finally be at the hotel!
